Which came first, dotes or Blackhorse?

In the Rawlings dating system, which came first the dot designations or the BLACKHORSE code system?

i believe the dots were used from 1960's through 1983 or 1984. the blackhorse codes were used until 1997. in 1998 they re-introduced the dots. i don't know when they started using the current 4 letter dating code.
