Can you help me identify my glove

Postby TyBrown » October 14th, 2007, 8:54 pm

I have a catchers mitt, I think its from the 1930's, and all I can make out of it are what looks like Ralston B. ______, and there is an endorser that looks like Billy H_____. If this sounds like something to you I would appreciate your help. Thanks so much, I really like this site! Sincerely, Ty

Sounds to me like the endorser is Ralston Burdett (Rollie) Hemsley, an All-Star catcher for quite a few different teams- Cincinnati, Chicago, New York, St. Louis, to name but a few- between 1928 and 1947. A quick Google search would let you turn up his stats and history.

The number of companies that Hemsley endorsed gloves for rivals the number of teams throughout his career. Among the different brand names: Denkert, Goldsmith, MacGregor, Hutch, Hiawatha, Olympic, Spalding, Western, D&M, and a few other odd and end companies.

Perhaps there is enough of the stampings left to match up one of those names. If you determine which company made the glove, we could possibly give you the exact year.
