Hi Folks:
This looks like a great forum. I am an engineer living in Ontario, Canada and a BB-aholic. My 11YO son is a very active baseball player and I started devoting some of my antique collecting time to baseball about a year ago. When I say active, he has traveled to Bucky Dent Camp in Florida. He has played in Baltimore and Florida. He has assisted as a Ball Boy at Harvard Try Outs. He has had two MLB Scouts as coaches at different times. He has been instructed as well by a World Series pitcher. Through all of this, he has collected a number of modern MLB signatures on balls, gloves and bats. I am starting to design some shelves and racks for his room to hold all of this stuff. When I started purchasing better quality equipment for my son (he has two Rawlings Pro Preferred Gloves for Pitching and 1B work), I began to realize that there must be some great antique stuff out there to sort through. I wanted to give him an appreciation for those that have gone before.
I am at the shotgun stage right now with glove collecting. I started collecting older baseball bats, books, balls, photos, etc. and have begun to pick up the odd glove from time-to-time. There are some places nearby where I can shell out some bigger bucks for earlier gloves (I missed a crescent pad glove a couple of weeks back). There are also some very beautiful large (2’ high cups with bats etc.) early baseball trophies that I want to pick up – these should be in some museum somewhere.
So far, we have the following gloves which I think would be about 1940’s vintage on average:
1. JC Higgins Pee Wee Pro Catchers Mitt Model 1667 (Made in Canada)
2. DR Catchers Mitt, (Daignault-Rolland, Made in Canada)
Cant find a model number – has not web but, a lace across the top of the pocket area
