I should have known if anyone had the same cool glove as Gehringer, it would be Dizzy Dean. It seems like Dizzy had a different glove in every photo.

Dizzy is the gift that keeps on giving. And just when you think you've seen it all, he still surprises.

That photo of "lefty" Dizzy Dean was from spring training on Catalina Island. for more info:

Thanks for the heads up Mike. That's really interesting. Some great looks at their gloves, too.
Eric, I came across a story about Josh Gibson and many other Negro League and Cuban stars recruited to play for a Veracruz team in 1940. The team owner wanted a championship badly, stacked it with all stars and got Martin Dihigo to manage. I don't have the link to it anymore, but I found a bit on Wikipedia.

Josh G leaving Venezuela en route to Veracruz.

Satchel Paige was the one big name who decided against going to Veracruz, possibly because he had a bad experience playing for a dictator in the Dominican Republic a few years earlier.
Sharing a laugh with Dizzy Dean. All I know about Satchel's glove is that it's old school.

Here's the story about Satchel and the dictator as only he could tell it.

Yeah, that's a great story isn't it? Cool early photo of the Mick.
Mel Ott and Oscar Melillo with the unique strap/trap web glove made by Spalding and Reach. They both made versions of it into the mid 1930s. The catalog ad is from 1929.

This is another early one of Mick…with a bit different type of glove on;). I think he was about 18 years old in this photo and was also playing for Joplin at this time…. Took me a while to get this one uploaded and it’s probably pretty fuzzy unfortunately, sorry about that, but great photo!!

Made me think of Pete Reiser. No padding on the walls in those days.
Another player remembered more for his hitting than fielding was Hack Wilson. Here's a good look at the intricate lace web on his Rawlings XL.

Cool Reach glove shot with a bunch of glove boxes in background. Love it!

Cool photo Jim.
I'd always thought that the pointer finger on the back of the glove started in the 1950s. Here's Lee Grissom from the mid 1930s with his Goldsmith Selkirk snare model.

That's a great shot of the Duke.
Here's Marty Marion and the blackened pocket of his Rawlings glove. I don't know what they used, just that it's all but impossible to remove.

Image

Another look at his glove and an ad for his signature model.

Nice photo of players using the Reach Sam Hale model glove.
Here's one of Jackie Robinson circa 1947-48. At first I thought he was wearing a three finger model glove but his ring finger stall is just tucked in.

Below is the ad from a 1948 Wilson catalog showing the "Top Notch" model. Top of the line glove in its day.
