Help Identifying a Glove

Postby ebbets55 » September 12th, 2012, 6:39 pm

Hi All,

I was just contacted by an ex-major leaguer who got his cup of coffee in Milwaukee in 1970. He asked me if I could help him identify the glove he was wearing in the photo below. His sons asked him to document his baseball career and he thought it would be neat to include as much as possible. I think that's cool.

The picture was taken in June, 1970. The glove wasn't his. It was borrowed from another player, which is why he doesn't know. It's clearly a high end professional model MacGregor with the black & white crown patch but we don't have many good MacGregor catalogs in the library so was wondering if you all could help me figure out what it might be - possible model #'s, etc. Thanks.

i am new to glove collecting and got a Reach chatcher's mitt. Per the Glove Collector catalogs, This mitt has the wrist buckle pulling to the left, single lace between index finger and thumb, the Reach label in the lower side of the index and tumb. it has the 32 printed in the face of the mitt (under the Heart finger), the number font is different to any one shown in the catalog. I would like to establish its date of manufacturing. Per the catalogs, suggest 1912 to 1920? but the position of the 32 and the mitt face color are not compatible with the catalogs. 1921 and 1922 show almost the same number 32 font and position on the mitt face, but the mitts has buckle in the thumb to index finger. After that the catalogs does show it or it is a different design

On the ball player's glove. It's a MacGregor Kangaoo Leather glove like Brett says. The time frame for Kangaroo for MacGregor fits.

About the mitts, i have also checked the Reach, Wright, and Ditson catalogs for 1928 and 1929. I could not find a definite match

Catalogs may not be totally accurate in the placing of the model number. It's not going to be easy to pinpoint the exact year but your in the right era
