Looking for Info- Vintage ACE Catcher's Mitt

Postby BretMan » July 5th, 2011, 11:32 am

Had a guy bring in his father's old catcher's mitt for restoration. I'm guessing approximately 1950 on this, give or take a few years. It's a quality mitt, all-leather, thick and heavy. No model number that I could find- just the stampings you can see it these pictures.

All I've been able to find is that it may have been sold through the "Ace Hardware" chain of stores. I would imagine that they were produced for Ace Hardware by some established sporting goods company. Something about the font of the stampings says "Spalding" to me, but that is just a guess. Anybody know anything about these?

The first picture is the actual mitt I worked on. The second two are pictures of a mitt I found for sale on the internet.
