Hi, I'm Brett

My name is Brett Lowman and I have a small collection of gloves that seems to get bigger every month. I've been tagging along to shows with my Dad looking for gloves since the early 90's. My favorite part of the hobby is going to antique shows and flea markets to see what I can find - I love the anticipation of the search, even if I come up empty handed. I really like gloves with cloth patches, especially if they are unique. My favorite brand of gloves at this time is probably Sonnett. I also run a small website where I sell some of the gloves that I find and don't really want for my collection. On a personal side, I am an elementary school PE teacher and obsessive compulsive Duke basketball fan. Besides collecting sports equipment, my wife and I have a rather large collection of music and have been to many, many concerts over the years. My wife is currently in pharmacy school, studying to the wee hours of the morning, giving me plenty of time to adminster this forum! :)

Hi to all on this forum. Brett a great job in setting up a place for people to learn more about each other and to share the hobby. I enjoy the old timer fielder's gloves and especially the weird web gloves. I have been in the hobby over 12 years and enjoy trading gloves. I recognize some folks and have even done some cool trades with a few of them, including Bret. Great to meet everyone and look forward to discussions on the thread from time to time. Thanks again Brett.

Welcome! That sounds like a fun way to collect (one per manufacturer). The B2F DiMaggio isn't too rare but is popular because of it's odd appearance and the DiMaggio name. In very good condition, they usually sell between 100 to 150.

Like I stated in another post, I bought my first collectible glove on a lark at a garage sale in 1989. Memorabilia dealer Jim Griffith really schooled me about what was the quality stuff. He lived nearby and his double car garage was literally filled with racks of bats and boxes of gloves. Joe phillips has been really helpful with TGC and his source books. As he states, "knowledge is power". I became expert early at looking past the blurry dark photos on ebay for that little hint of something exceptional. On a personal note, I would like to retire from my business but like Captain Billy Tyne in the final scenes of the "The Perfect Storm", his fishing boat trying to escape the storm and he says "It just won't let me go"! I took a long hiatus from collecting but still enjoy the research and history of baseball gloves of all eras.
