Yes, you're correct on the basemitts in those years. But what about the years prior to 1914. Unless the sourcebook is incorrect, the CF model is listed under basemitts. And if saw correctly, one of those years it was one of the top of the line basemitts. A good reason why the mitt had rolled leather binding.

Good points. CF is also listed as a fielders mitt. I'm still betting that any top line baseman's mitt would be laced all the way around.

This is a great discussion - where's everyone else???

I'm sticking with fielders mitts. I have about 20 reach basemans mitts and even the low priced models with buckles and cloth piping are wider than these mitts...I'm at work now, but perhaps when I get home I'll measure the with of the CF vs a low priced baseman's mitt for comparision purposes.

Jim,

what can you tell me about the Reach 9Gmodel? I have one, in what I would consider mint condition (leather all good, supple inside and out, label very clear good intact legible button, and all the palm markings clear and legible).

Says on palm 9G Reach Then trademark stamp, and patented March 10th, 1908.

Button says Reach

Label J Reach Co., trademark, PHILA, EG. US Pat OFF

1 inch pocket

According the Glove Source Catalog Book, the 9G was produced from 1908 into the 1920's - it appears to be a mid-line to low-line glove. It went through a couple different incarnations including Mouse Color, Craven Tan, Semi-Pro.

thank for the info. that is about what I had it as too. They went for $30 a dozen in 1912 Catalog. Top went for around $60 Least for $6 a dozen (kids).

Any idea of the value of these in very very good condition? I am new to collecting old gloves.
