Hi guys, it's been a longtime since I posted anything on the forum, I guess it is because I have turned into one of those members who just likes to read all the info and enjoys reading the good banter among friends. I really don't collect gloves anymore, but that doesn't mean the love for the leather has left my heart; once a glover always a glover. I still have several gloves that are prominently on display in my home, and as long as my lungs still function they always will. Years ago when I first started collecting and received Joe's newsletter, I always liked the issues when he would print a fiction glove story that someone had created. I always wanted to read a good story about a special glove that someone had made up, and hoped that someday someone would. Sadly the newsletter has stopped for now, and the new collectors will never feel the excitement of seeing that folded paper with the round seal and the little brown box with what was inside the issue.
In 2008 my daughter was about to turn thirteen, and I wanted to give her something special. I decided to write a story that would impart all my fatherly wisdom and hope that if she read the words thru a fictious character they would have more meaning and would be easier to remember. I chose to write about the things I know and love so I combined my love for my daughter and family with baseball, Rickwood Field and of course baseball gloves. When I finished, the result was something more than I had anticipated creating. I realized here was the glove story that I had always wanted to read. I sent it to Joe Phillips and Jim Daniel to get their opinion, and was very pleased when they gave me their critique. The name of the book is "Angels at Rickwood" and I think you will find it a story you will enjoy and will want your children to read also, or you may want to read to them. Anyway I thought you guys would like to know it's out there if you are interested. If you would like more information on the book please visit my website at: http://www.angelsatrickwood.com
Thanks,
Chuck Stewart
