A heads up for my fellow collectors

I’m writing this to inform all of you of a potential scam that may be starting. A few weeks ago, I received an email from a woman stating that she saw my collection, which was showcased on a website, and saw that I collected uniforms and that she had 2 uniforms that she wanted to get rid of and sell. Curious about them, I asked for pictures and she provided pictures very promptly of the 2 she had. I asked what she was offering and she told me what the prices were and what an auction house quoted them for. I had interest in one and told her I’d take it for X amount of dollars. She accepted my offer and I sent her out the check. She then emailed me and stated she received my check and was sending out the uniform the following day. 10 days have passed and still have not received a package nor have I heard from the woman. I emailed the woman for 5 straight days with no response (which was unlike our beginning conversations). I am still hopeful (slowly dwindling), but I just felt it was necessary to get this out ASAP for you guys to be aware of and to proceed with caution if contacted by this woman . I’ll keep you posted. Well, today I finally got my uniform which was a huge surprise and relief. Feeling like a total ass, I emailed the woman to apologize. All I can say is communication is the key! (It can't be all one-sided)
Unfortunatley, I may have jumped the gun, but you never know nowadays and felt it was necessary considering the time frame to inform people to be on alert. I hope you guys understand. No need for the pile on, I already feel bad.

I would have been nervous as well. When the communication starts out as a 2-way conversation and then becomes completely one-sided (after the money changes hands) there is reason for concern and suspicion.

I am glad it worked out... these things usually do. I still believe she should have reassured you that the uniform was on its way, to save you lots of anguish. Just as a common courtesy, if nothing else...

Here's the uni. Collared uniform with a unique strap across the throat area. Came with red Spalding sox, but I used my maroon socks which aren't as LOUD as the vibrant red. Looks like quilted pants, but doesn't have the stitching which is probably a no. Also detachable sleeves (only one). No tags or markings on the uni, but still cool!

I don't think you should feel badly about getting upset. Hell, you laid out good money for something thinking you got a great deal and the seller suddenly stops communicating. I would have reacted in the same exact way. If you feel you've gotten scammed, you get angry about it, it's human nature. Don't be too hard on yourself, 97% of people in this world would have reacted the same way that you did or even worse. I've been through a similar situation, and I know what it's like. You want to reach out and smack somebody because you think you've been had, but unfortunately there's no one to confront and no way to get your dough back. It's a helpless and frustrating feeling. Even more so in this current economy, because everyone is trying to hold on to their money with both hands. You did the gracious thing by apologizing, but the seller should have also apologized to you for not responding to your emails on a timely basis.

I'm glad everything worked out well. We all still need to be mindful and careful of scams. They're all over the internet. Ricky did a self-less thing in trying to keep us protected while experiencing the lowest point of his transaction. Although he eventually got the uniform, there was no guarantee that he would. Kudos to you Rickybulldog.
