Please help identify this Vintage Carl Hubbell glove!

Postby B.E.A.R. » November 22nd, 2009, 11:46 am

I acquired this glove from a local estate and do not know alot about gloves and am unable to get much information on this model. Could anyone help me get some more definitive information (ie. age, value, mfg. place, ect.)
The condition is great! However it does need cleaning which I refuse to do because of my fears of damaging the glove. There is a strap between the thumb and pointer finger not a web. It is a right handed glove. It has a adjustable wrist strap with red lettered, gold button, with the Wilson name upon it. The palm is marked "Wilson, Made in USA", "Big Leaguer", "2641", and lastly marked with the players mfg. signature "Carl Hubbell, Trade Mark". I have done some research and have had some help but alot is educated guesses.
Here are the photos of the glove mentioned:

The glove is probably late 30's / early 40's - Hubbell was an endorser for them in that time frame. The model number doesn't match Wilson's catalog numbers. It was most likely made for a hardware/department store or some other outfit. Glove is a lower line model. Hubbell gloves aren't too common but they aren't rare either. He is a a HOFer so that makes it desirable, however, he was a lefty and your glove is for a RH thrower. Condition of yours definitely helps. I'd say $75 to $125 would be a good range.
