Hey folks

Postby clw » September 21st, 2009, 10:14 pm

Just a quick note to say hi and introduce myself. My name's Chris and I live in Windsor, Ontario Canada. I'm very new to glove collecting....got the bug when I joined a men's hardball league this summer, after a 17 year absence from playing. Needed a new glove and when looking around, found this wonderful world of old gloves, which brought back so many memories of my first glove...well I was hooked.

There appears to be a mountain of knowledge to climb and I don't really know where to begin, so please excuse me if I don't post a whole lot, but I'll definitely be reading.

As I'm a left handed first-baseman/pitcher, I'm most interested in base mitts and lefty gloves, though from what I'm reading the lefties are less collectible?

A few of my first acquirements are:

a Rawlings Stan Musial T70 RY in what I consider to be in bad condition, though I don't really know how to judge.

an unused Nokona B9 with tags from ebay a couple weeks ago

a MacGregor "Snare"

and I picked up a new Akadema remake of the Ken Well Lou Gehrig 632 buckle back....just to have.

Anyway. Hope to meet a log of great folks here and thanks in advance for any advice, help etc, you might offer.

Welcome to the forum and to collecting! I wish you the best of luck in finding the leather.

My best advice to you is collect what you like. If you like lefties go for it man!

Welcome - I went the other way -- I had an interest in gloves and though that I then started playing hardball again -- after a 39 year absence!

Hit .417 this year at age 59.

Nice work! I sure didn't bat that well, but I've been having an awful lot of fun! Thanks for the welcome.
