Bob,

It's funny you mention that. When I was a kid we would lay out our baseball cards of our team in postion and use the little mini baseball bat (the souveniers at shea stadium) to hit and take pieces of looseleaf and make them into tight little balls pitch them at the batter and hit them. We would designate areas for hits, groundball through=basehit off the wall would be a triple etc. We also played this in the rain or cold northeast weather days. We would have hours of enjoyment.

My boys and I created a dice game with balls, strikes, hits and outs. If I remember correctly it went like this:

one = strike
two = strike
three = ball
four = ball
five = ball
six = hit, then roll
one = single
two = double
three = triple
four = home run
five = ground out
six = fly out

We played innings and then games. It helped them count, keep track of baserunners and scoring b/c I had them drawing the legs around the diamond, then filling 'em in for each run. Great fun on a rainy day.
