I know nothing about older leather. Why is it a problem that the new hides are coming from a year old cow? Kip skin, which is more costly, is sought after because it comes from younger animals.

Also, why can Horween only use the top 8% for baseball gloves? I understand this was the case at one time when the HOH leather was naked. I don’t think today’s HOH leather is truly aniline dyed anymore; I am surprised they are still so limited on their hide selection.

Also there was someone that posted earlier that he bought some Horween leather. If I may ask what the cost was and how you can obtain it. I realy like to purchase some. What other leathers does Horween produce for gloves?

I believe that it is me that you're referring to.

I called Horween and spoke directly with Skip Horween. I told him that I wanted the same leather that Rawlings used in their American made "Heart of the Hide" gloves.
He knew exactly what I was talking about. I ordered one hide which cost about $8.50 per square foot (about two years ago). The hide was about 25 square feet. Now, if I had ordered 1000 square feet the price would have been half of what I paid.

It was the real deal. Fresh and supple; just beautiful stuff. I used it to make vintage style baseballs like the one in my avatar.

Feel free to send me a private message and I can give you additional details.
